The work ofArtur Manuel do Cruzeiro Seixas(b. 1920), dean of contemporary Portuguese art, gives a sense of inspiration. This is testimony to almost a century of incomparable and unstoppable artistic activity that has placed him as a Master not only of Portuguese Surrealism, but also of the European Surrealism of which he is an author. one of the exponents. His paintings and drawings form, according to renowned art historian Hellmut Wohl, "the largest, most coherent and most significant set of surrealist expression, made by a Portuguese artist". In its creation, a disturbing dream universe vibrates, with its sphinx and composite figures, between the human and the animal, in a landscape populated by the signs of the unconscious, enigmas that carry an unfathomable mystery ;vel. Theatrical game of the forms of the world and its metamorphoses, dialogue between the real and the unreal, between the conscious, reason and dreams, magical continent, where the white figures of a loving expectation are cut out. Figures of a secret that this mysterious horizon of dreams seems to hide and simultaneously announce. Giving expression, how is it? It is typical of the work of genius artists, to the oldest and always current desires of humanity.
