RENEWING THE TRADITION OF BULLFIGHTING Poet and painter, Miguel Barbosa prolongs and renews the important tradition of bullfighting, a privileged motif in the plastic arts, from Goya to Manet and Picasso. The bull, a plastic and symbolic motif, in its connection to the horse, evokes fundamental dualities, the masculine and the feminine, the sun and the moon, death and life, matter and the spirit. A figure of the great inner drives, of sexual and cosmic energy, it becomes in the present work the emblem of movement and vital force equally connoted by the dominant blood red in the composition.
