Critical notes
The sculptor Andrés Alcantara in these two versions of an exquisite engraving, dry point and burin made using ancient techniques, reconstructs all the magic and tragic sense of the old bullfights, a noble theme of Spanish painting that already inspired Goya and Picasso. Metaphor of human destiny, of its enigmas and trials, in the image of the bull and in the evocation of a labyrinthine spiral, a horizon clearly outlined in a sky as vast as it is unsettling.
