Andrés Alcántara was born in Torredelcampo, Jaén, Spain in 1960.

A sculptor of great merit, Alcántara also paints and engraves. He held his first solo exhibition in 1988, at the Galeria E. Navarro, Madrid. He has been awarded the following prestigious prizes: the Murcia Sculpture Biennial; the XIV Caja de Madrid National Sculpture Contest; the XXII Painting and Sculpture Contest in Quesada, Jaén; the XVIII and XIX International Sculpture Contest in Santisteban del Puerto, Jaén and the Punta Umbría International Sculpture Contest in Huelva.

Alcántara, or El mago de la piedra (as he has been called), refuses any ties to aesthetic movements, assuming this alienation with a discreet and sincere attitude towards life that impels him to model volumes directly, according to the freedom of his most intimate feeling. Andrés Ancántara is represented in numerous prestigious international collections.
