Rafael Canogar who was born in Toledo in 1935 is is a fundamental name in contemporary Spanish art. His painting, figurative in its beginnings, evolves according to Victor Nieto Alcaide into an abstraction marked by “ magical world of Paul Klee” and later to fully informalist works where “the gestural elements of expressiveness” at the same time reducing the color to whites, blacks, grays, and some touches of red “as a pathetic reinforcement of the image”. The protagonism in this case goes to “the gesture as a personal and agonistic cry and as a plastic means of denunciation”.
