The work was part of the exhibition ‘JE T'AUTORISE A ÊTRE MOI, JE M'AUTORISE A ÊTRE TOI’ by ORLAN, presented from 18 May to 10 June 2024.

Empress Eugénie (1826-1920) was the last Empress of France, the result of her marriage to Napoleon III in 1853. She played a significant role as a patron of the arts and fashion, as well as being involved in the political and cultural issues of her day. Her influence ranged from supporting writers and artists to promoting female education and an interest in technology.

In 2023, ORLAN was invited to create a work for the "Chère Eugénie" exhibition organised by Maison Guerlain to mark the anniversary of the iconic bee bottle, the French brand's symbol of identity, created in 1853 for the wedding of Empress Eugénie and Napoleon III. ORLAN decided to pay homage to the Empress through this hybridisation.
