Saramaguian Women in Brazil

After several tours in Portugal and in cities such as Stockholm, Berlin, Leipzig and Bilbao, the exhibition "Mulheres Saramaguianas" crossed the Atlantic to make itself known in Brazil.

The first city to present the exhibition was Brasília at the Camões Gallery of the Embassy of Portugal, between March and May, followed by Salvador da Baía and Belo Horizonte.

Mulheres Saramaguianas is the result of a partnership between the Fundação José Saramago and CPS.

Inspired by Saramago's female characters, six prestigious artists - José de Guimarães, Graça Morais, Manuel João Vieira, Joana Villaverde, Miguel Januário and Ana Romãozinho - created original silkscreens and engravings which, in turn, served as inspiration for six female Portuguese-speaking writers - Lídia Jorge, Ana Luísa Amaral, Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida, Dulce Maria Cardoso, Ana Margarida Carvalho and Adriana Lisboa.

Blimunda, Gracinda Mau-Tempo, Joana Carda, Maria Sara, death and the doctor's wife are the Saramaguian Women who inspired the artists and writers.
