Exhibition on surrealism with five Portuguese-speaking artists opens in New York

Five Portuguese-speaking artists - Cruzeiro Seixas (1920-2020), Malangatana (1936-2011), Fernando Lemos (1926-2019), António Pedro (1909-1966) and António de Azevedo (1889-1968) - are among the 45 artists in the exhibition "Surrealism Beyond Borders" ("Surrealism beyond borders", in free translation from English) that inaugurated this month at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York.

 

Patent in the North American museum until January 30, 2022, the exhibition then opens on February 24 of next year at Tate Modern, in London, which will have it on display. exposed until August 29.

 

"Including nearly eight decades of work produced in 45 countries, 'Surrealism Beyond Borders' offers a new approach to the concerns and collective exchanges that reposition the appreciation of this revolutionary and global movement", can be read on the Metropolitan Museum's page.

 

The Tate adds that the exhibition will “show how artists from all over the world were inspired by and united around surrealism, from centers as diverse as Buenos Aires, Cairo, Lisbon, Mexico City ;xico, Prague, Seoul and Tokyo”.
