HERVÉ DI ROSA

A primitive and magical energy

Hervé di Rosa, a French artist with an international career, currently lives and works in Lisbon.
Very versatile, he dedicated himself to different expressions: painting, sculpture, tapestry, ceramics ;mica, illustration, comics. His creation, in his own words, draws on sources such as popular art, comics, Pop, Brut art, science fiction, music rock, his collections of modest objects that he discovered in his seven trips around the world and which led him to create the International Museum of Modest Arts in 2000.

His style, with a markedly narrative component, from 1981 onwards is assumed as “Free Figuration”, a movement
of which he was the founder, together with other well-known artists and which defends the abolition of cultural or geographical gender borders. What is it about? This example is his current creation, whose intense vitalism of the ascension rhythms and the explosion of primary colors transmits to us a primitive and magical energy, in a kind of ritual celebration of the originals drives of life.
