THE OP-ART SYNTHESIS
Eduardo Nery, born in 1938 in Figueira da Foz and exhibiting collectively since 1957 and individually since 1964, graduated in painting from the Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Recognized and awarded by critics since 1969, the year in which he was one of the four artists awarded at the Banco Português do Atlântico exhibition and received an honorable mention at the Soquil Prize, the retrospective exhibition in 2003 at the Azulejo Museum in Lisbon revealed the various facets of his journey since 1961, in tapestry, tiles, mosaics and stained glass. Having begun his artistic expression through gestural drawing, the artist soon evolved towards an aesthetic influenced by op-art in the orbit of which he would prevail to this day, disseminating his work in important public art achievements, such as tile coverings for the Campo Grande Station of the Lisbon Metro in 1992 (Municipal Jorge Colaço Azulejaria Award, from the Lisbon City Council) or in the monumental panel for the Macau Airport in 1995. Mastering various technologies, the artist has been establishing his creation in the study of optical phenomena, such as those documented in this image, motivated by the universe of jazz music.
