João Prates

João Rosa Guerra Prates was born in 1961 in Vale de Açor, Ponte de Sor. It is currently CPS director – Portuguese Screen Printing Center, which allowed him to develop a path open to the arts. experimentation around graphic work, especially within the scope of screen printing. From this perspective, it denounces a contemporary language, evident in the importance it gives to society. digital image, usually present in the reuse of certain figures. The symbiosis between image and poetry, which add to his practice, allows him to resize new visions of some chosen personalities – they are also linked to the literature and visual arts - such as that of Fernando Pessoa, Camões or Picasso, among others.

Having produced several silkscreen and engraving editions, and participated in collective exhibitions, the solo exhibitions he held stand out, while J. Rosa Guerra: at the National Library, &ldquo "of books that cannot be read", in 2004, Lisbon, a selection of books from a work built over ten years, a reflection of the countless possibilities for transmitting the word and the image; at the Water Museum, “The Book of Pan II and Other Books”, in 2007, Lisbon, investing in a wide range of techniques and media, such as drawing, painting, photography, collage, engraving, screen printing, poetry , quotes, texts and music; in the Chapel of the Founder of the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, “Miracle – Praise for the Panels by Nuno Gonçalves”, in 2013/15, Batalha, an installation seen by more than 300,000 people and at the Military Museum of Lisbon, “Alfarrobeira – Book of Homage to Infante D. Pedro (1392-1449)”, in 2019, Lisbon, an exhibition curated by Luís Albuquerque and Ilídio Salteiro, integrated into the Evocação Arte project Contemporary.
