MELANCHOLY AND LONELINESS OF HUMAN
Gabriel Garcia, one of the brightest names in narrative figuration in Portugal, has particularly distinguished himself in painting, drawing and installation. The fantastic, ironic, harsh and burlesque stories of his paintings are contemporary fables that record the charm and disenchantment of everyday life. The artist's expression evolved into a much more sober and refined style close to the melancholy and secrecy of the great American painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967), whose inspiration he recognizes. Melancholy and silence filled with unspoken words, but which seem to emerge from the emotion contained in the image, in this enigmatic engraving, a narrative of absolute human solitude, a desert of the soul unable to free itself in the symbolic ascension that the horizontal ladder seems to deny.
