Ana Galvão
Ana Galvão was born in Nova Lisboa, Angola. She has a degree in Law and a course in History of Art. She studied Etching and Xylography with David de Almeida (Lisbon, 1982-85) at the Atelier Experimental of the Quadrum Gallery and Etching with H. Marçal (Lisbon, 1986) and Dacos (Lisbon, 1987) at the Atelier - Cooperativa de Gravadores Portugueses. Processes of Mixed Media with Calado (Lisbon, 1991).
She has held various collective and individual exhibitions and has received the following awards: 1987, Honourable Mention - Engraving "European Year of the Environment", Setúbal. 1º. Prize, Galeria Viragem, Cascais; 1989, Honourable Mention, 3rd National Small Format Exhibition, Cascais; 1991, 1st. Manuel Filipe Prize, Galeria Viragem, Cascais; 1992, Edition Prize, III National Biennial of Engraving, Amadora. Special Mention of the Jury, 1st International Exhibition, Ourense, Spain; 2000, Acquisition Prize, VII Biennial / 1st International Printmaking Biennial, Amadora and in 2001 the 1st. Prize, 1st International Biennial of Engraving Douro 2001, Alijó.
She is represented at the Small Format Museum (Couvin, Belgium), Setúbal Museum (Portugal), Museum of International Contemporary Graphic Art (Norway), Museu Municipal de Loures (Portugal), Centrum Miedziorytu (Lubin, Poland), Câmara Municipal de Vila do Conde (Portugal), Taller Galleria Fort (Barcelona, Spain), Town Hall of Aljustrel (Beja, Portugal), Bureau of Art Exhibitions (Lodz, Poland), Collection of Banco Fomento Exterior (Angola), Town Hall of Amadora (Portugal), Museum of Ourense (Spain), Majdaneck State Museum , Poland. Alijó City Council, Portugal. She is represented in several public collections in Portugal and abroad.
In November 2017, Quadrum Gallery hosted an anthological exhibition entitled "Ana Galvão - The Solitary Taste of Engraving", curated by Célia Bragança. The exhibition offers a continued perspective on the production of engraving over 30 years (1987-2017).
