Sofia Areal

Born in Lisbon in 1960. He began his training in England with the Textile Design and Foundation Course courses at the Hertsfordshire College of Art and Design, in the United Kingdom and, in Lisbon, he attended the studios of Engraving and Painting at Ar.Co.

Multidisciplinary artist has been developing work in areas as diverse as painting, drawing, illustration, graphic design, ceramics, tapestry and scenography .

His CV includes many exhibitions, among which we highlight “SIM”, the individual and anthological exhibition of the last ten years of his work which he had as a space Welcome to Cordoaria Nacional, in 2011 and the collective and traveling exhibition “Quatro”, with Manuel Casimiro, Jorge Martins and Nikias Skapinakis. In 2013, the exhibition "Inmóvil en la luz, pero danzante" was held in the city of Mexico with the support of the Embassy of Portugal and Michelle Aizpuru, and sponsored by several Portuguese entities .

A personality of recognized cultural merit, she was photographed by Carmela Garcia, alongside other illustrious female artists, for “*13 Políptico”, an exhibition held in 2012, whose objective was the reinterpretation of art. Photographic photography of the famous and enigmatic Panels of São Vicente de Fora. In the same year she was distinguished with the Femina Prize for Visual Arts.

It is represented in important public and private collections, in institutions such as Banco Espírito Santo, the Modern Art Center of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Carmona Foundation and Costa, the PLMJ Foundation and the Contemporary Art Museums of Funchal and Elvas.
