Joaquim Manuel Guerreiro Baptista was born in Faro, in 1936. In 1957 he enrolled in Architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, a course he abandoned to dedicate himself entirely to architecture. painting. In 1962 he completed the Complementary Painting Course at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa.
In 1962-63 he was granted a scholarship in Paris by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. In 1968 he received a scholarship from the Institute of High Culture in Ravenna, Italy. He was a Painting Assistant at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, between 1964 and 1972. From 1977 onwards he traveled regularly to Lippstadt and Schmallenberg in the Federal Republic of Germany where he worked and created tapestries for the Factory Falke (Imago).
He passed away in April 2023.
