António Ferrão was born in Lisbon in 1950. In 1969 he went to Mozambique and in Lourenço Marques he received his first apprenticeship in painting with José Pádua and António Quadros. On his return to Lisbon he studied Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon. In 1986 and 1987 he attended the Drawing and Painting course at the National Society of Fine Arts.
He dedicates himself exclusively to painting since 1992 and in this context, he has held the following exhibitions: in 1992, Group Exhibition at the Hall of the Vila Real Town Hall; in 1996, Solo Exhibition at the Ferin Bookstore Gallery, Lisbon; in 1997 - Group Exhibition at the Salão Nobre do Forte de Cascais; in 1999, Group Exhibition at Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon and Group Exhibition at Vértice Gallery, Lisbon; in 2000, Solo Exhibition at the Realidade Gallery in Funchal - Group Exhibition at the Y Grego Gallery, Lisbon; in 2002, Solo Exhibition at the Electricity Museum in Funchal; in 2004, Solo Exhibition at the Vértice Gallery, Lisbon; in 2005, Group Exhibition at the 9arte Gallery, Lisbon and in 2008, at the Galveias Gallery, Lisbon.
He is represented in several private collections, in the Ministry of Agriculture and in the Fundo de Arte Ferro Ribeiro.
