Critical notes
The plastic and symbolic motif of the bull is is central in the work of Picasso, who listened to the lessons of the history of painting, from Goya to Manet and had particular expression in the 1930s, in his graphic work with the famous “Vollard Suite”, with the “Minotauromachy” 1935 and “Guernica” from 1937, one of the most emblematic works of 20th century painting. This image by António Ferrão is affiliated with this noble tradition that perhaps inspired it.
