Born in Seixal in 1950, Amélia Soares completed a degree in Plastic Arts at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa and a course in Animation Cinema at the Royal College of Art, London.
In 2003 she was artist in residence at Atelier Presse Papier 3 Rivières Canada and in 2005 she attended the Southern Graphics Council Conference Power in Print Washington D.C. USA. In 2003 she was awarded the prize Parchemin d'honner - Association Mouvement d'Art Contemporain - Triennal Mondial d'Estampes, Chamallières, France.
She has held important individual exhibitions such as "Timeless Probabilities" Galeria Augusto Bértholo, Alhandra, 2002 and "Timeless Writing Marks" Galeria Ceutarte Lisboa, 2003. She has participated in several collective exhibitions: Otrangle of Engraving Portugal, Holland, Japan, 2008; Encounters with the East, Água-Forte I Fukushima, Museu do Oriente, Lisbon, 2009; Convergance / Divergence, Hong Kong Graphic Fiesta Hong Kong; 5th Douro Print Biennial; Engraving - Arts of Japan and Portugal - Museu do Oriente, Lisbon, 2010; XI Biennial of Sarcelles - Portuguese Representation - France, 2011. She is represented in several public institutions and private collections.
