Violeta Lópiz wins Ilustrarte Award 2016

The Ilustrarte - International Biennial of Illustration for Children award was given to Violeta Lópiz for the visual work of the book "Amigos do Peito", with text by the Brazilian author Claudio Tebas, published by Bruaá in 2014.

One of the illustrations in the book "Amigos do Peito", Violeta Lópiz, Ilustrarte Prize 2016

The winning illustrations were created during her artistic residency at CPS Studio, in Lisbon. This experience resulted in two etchings that were presented to the CPS Members and of which we still have some copies (click on the images below to see the works).

Violeta Lópiz, who was born in Ibiza and lives and works in Berlin, is considered (El Cultural de El Mundo) one of the ten biggest names in Spanish illustration. In 2011, her book Les Poings sur les Îles was awarded the CJ Picture Book Awards (South Korea).

Violeta fills her illustrations with everything she experiences, so it is not uncommon to find music and travel notes in her creations. One of the greatest sources of inspiration is her childhood, where she finds the spontaneity and imagination of when she was a child. She collaborates regularly with the Portuguese newspaper Expresso, El Mundo and The Economist.

The illustrations of "Amigos do Peito" are part of the Ilustrarte Biennial, which opened on the 21st, at the Museu da Electricidade, in Lisbon. The biennial also features works by 50 other illustrators, including the Portuguese Catarina Sobral, Joana Estrela, Teresa Lima and Daniel Moreira.
