FANTASIES OF CIVILIZATION The art of Gabriel Garcia (b. 1977) represented here by eight studies for the recent exhibition at Galeria António Prates deserved the award. art critic Maria João Fernandes the following words: “Figures that emerge from the most archaic or more recent history, from the universe of fables and myths, others from the city scene, in a kind of grotesque and aimless wandering. A mixture of the human and the animal, of the various kingdoms, with invented mechanisms that allow their domination, in crossing the imaginary mirror of art, to meet Alice, lost in the meanders of fantasies, like Pinocchio . Fantasies of an entire civilization that the artist is part of. interpreter, aimless and meaningless, other than the perplexity of a movement that ignores a center, the source of all energy, the solar nucleus of Life.”
