LIGHT AND FORMS Joséé Espiga Pinto, award-winning artist, painter, designer, sculptor, engraver, illustrator, medalist, was born in 1940, in Vila Viçosa. Since 1955, the date of his first solo exhibition (Vila Viçosa), he has held 74 solo exhibitions, including drawing, engraving, painting and sculpture. He participated in group exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, France, England and the United States. A universe that today is ours. It is given to appreciate the luminous splendor of his metamorphoses in works representative of his various phases and techniques: the engravings that, through the dark and elegant image of the reaper, evoke the realism of the 1950s, the horse of the same period, the most recent image, of the ideal and splendid “Shulamite” of the Song of Songs, or the serigraphy on canvas of the magnificent and solar phoenix, a redemptive bird that radiates heat and life like the sun that surrounds it. associated. An exhibition of his at the Portuguese Screen Printing Center summarizes around 50 years of his work, including linoleums, woodcuts, lithographs and silkscreens on paper and fabric. From the realism of his beginnings, the artist evolved towards a poetic symbolism whose main protagonists are the horse, a solar and cosmic symbol, the plethora and telleric bull, the woman in the sweetness of the musical variations of the feminine, the birds metaphors of a plenitude of divine sign and a nature complicit in the beauty of this universe.
