Born in Lisbon in 1959, Ana Maria graduated in Philosophy in Oporto. She has exhibited individually since 1993, and throughout her career has been awarded various prizes, including the Júlio Resende National Painting Prize in 1990, two honourable mentions at the Biennial of Vª Nª de Cerveira in 1991 and 2003, the Amadeu de Souza Cardoso Prize in 2005, an Honourable Mention at the 1st National Painting Exhibition of Coimbra in 1988, and the 3rd National Painting Prize - Boavista Futebol Clube (1992).
