Critical notes
Filipe Romão (b. 1981, Lisbon) is degree in Fine Arts, Painting, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and a degree in sculpture from the same Faculty and in photography from the Technical School of Image and Communication (ETIC). If the discovery of photography in the mid-19th century freed painting from the need to be faithful to reality, the figurative tradition remained until the end of the 19th century. remains today as the strongest aspect of Western art.
The present work, which is part of the series "Of the Places Where I Never Been", a black and white lithograph, of remarkable execution , reflects the artist's great connection to the world. nature, his memories, revealing a double seduction by painting and photography in his option for a figurative expression. In the meticulously treated landscape, the staggering of plant forms creates perspective and reveals a horizon of changing clouds in an eloquent contrast between the stability and movement that preside over the rhythms of nature.
