Mezzotint engraving is is a demanding engraving technique in which the metal plate is engraved. Initially crafted to have a uniform, absolute black grained surface. The artist builds the drawing by opening and gradually discovering clear areas and intermediate values. When you apply the paint, it will remain shiny. It is retained in the grooves but with less adhesion in the areas opened by the design, depending on the intensity of the straightening.
Critical notes
A Lesson in Hope
Joana Geraldes (b.1991), who began her journey through drawing, has dedicated herself increasingly to art. engraving, currently being an exceptional engraver and printer at Atelier CPS. His personal memories and biographical experiences, the subject of a recent exhibition of drawings in Entroncamento, where he was born, appear in this engraving in two color variants, transposed onto a symbolic and lilac plane. rich. The flower that leaves its leaves in the wind of chance or destiny, solar or lunar, seems to challenge, with its delicacy and fragility, the night of an absolute unknown that represents all of humanity's fears. After all, it is a lesson in hope and permanence, in a time of great anxiety.
