Critical notes
A SONG OF AFRICAN ROOTS Fernando Machiana (b.1939), born in Matalana, Mozambique, was inspired by another great name in Mozambican art, Malangatana. Having started his artistic career in 1965, he specialized in screen printing and engraving techniques from 2006 onwards, precisely at the CPS. In a detailed and pointillistic expression that identifies his style, in this work for screen printing, he once again evokes the rural environment and the traditions of his homeland. A true song of its African roots gives us back a sense of cohesion and sharing of everyday life that does not exclude a certain melancholy and expectation felt collectively.
