NARRATIVES OF SILENCE
For Gabriel Garcia who has particularly distinguished himself in painting, drawing and installation and one of the most brilliant names in figuration in Portugal, “the (…) work of art is; It is a long (…) process, of inquiry, of encounters and disagreements”. A process in which he himself recognizes a component “of interpretation of the world” through his stories “fantastic, ironic, harsh and burlesque”, contemporary fables that record both the charm and disenchantment of our daily lives. The artist's figuration evolved into a much more sober and refined style close to the melancholy and secrecy of the great American painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967), whose inspiration ;recognizes it and is aware of it. This is evident in this series of engravings dedicated to silence. Silence full of unspoken words, but which seem to emerge from the emotion contained in his images. Narratives of uninhabited outskirts, which nature seems to share, and which communicate to us the solitude of big cities and the soul of those who inhabit them.
