Isabel Mourão
Isabel Mourão was born in Porto. He attended the Introduction to Drawing and Painting Course at IADE taught by master Lima de Freitas and Martim Lapa. He has spent time at several ateliers (Manuela Pinheiro, Luís Guimarães, Rui Aço Oficina do Drawing, Patrícia Tavera and attended the engraving course at Galeria Diferença (João Cochofel).
His body of work is Essentially conceptual, with a strong dreamlike and symbolic tendency, sometimes introspective and sometimes satirical, using Drawing and Painting as means and, albeit in a more discontinuous way, Engraving, Photography and Writing.
He has been constantly participating in several individual and collective exhibitions, among others, at Galeria Verney, Centro Cultural de Cascais, Fundação D.Luís I, Fundaçã the Marqués de Pombal, AMI-Palace of Youth, Palace of Egypt-Luchapa, Palace of Independence -Lisbon, Catholic University of Lisbon, Biblioteca Operária Oeirense,
Academy of Arts and Museum of the City-Lisbon, Order of Doctors-Vila Real, Museum –Caves de Santa Marta,. Ribamar Palace, among many others.
He did work in the field of illustration, as is common practice. example, your collaboration on the book” Flying on the wings of a green pigeon” , by Helena Osório, in 2014. He also illustrated the libretto and posters for the musical “O Astrónomo” by Tiago Sepúlveda, inspired by the work of Nuno Tovar de Lemos in 2016.
Your work is represented in the collection of foundations such as the D.Luis I Foundation, and in private collections in Portugal, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Currently has a studio in Oeiras, at Fábrica da Pólvora-Atelier 27.
