Born in Lubango, Angola, in 1962. He started drawing from a very early age, at the age of 13 he dedicated himself to art. comics. He studied at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon, where he met professor João Vieira, a painter who would mark him as an artist.
He graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, in 1986. While he was still taking the course, he began to intervene in the university space with Pedro Portugal, founding the project of a magazine entitled “Homeosté ;tica”, from which the Homeostético group would be formed, a collective that initially included the names of Manuel João Vieira, Pedro Portugal, Ivo and Xana. They held their first group exhibition in 1983.

In 1983 he won the Nadir Afonso Prize and was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Cagnes-sur-Mer Festival. In 1985 he was awarded the V Triennial Acquisition of India prize and in 1993 he was awarded the Latin Union Prize for the installation carried out at the Foundation's headquarters Calouste Gulbenkian. In 1996 he won the Eixo Atlntico Award and in 1997 the 1st Salon de Otoño de Plasencia Award. It is represented in public collections in Portugal and Spain, such as Fundação de Serralves, Porto; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; MEIAC, Badajoz; Reina Sofia Art Center, Madrid.
He devoted himself largely to drawing, as his preferred medium, although as a versatile artist he had various mediators in his career: painting, illustration, narrative, essayistic prose and even writing. the manifesto register, having signed several of the Homeosthetic Movement's manifestos. In recent years, it has also invested in the installation area.
