João Grijó

Born in Paris, in 1949. Of Portuguese nationality, he settled in Brazil in 1978. In 1973 he graduated in Art and Design at the Chelsea School of Art, in London. He held individual and group exhibitions in Brazil, Portugal and Macau. He received the Amadeo Souza Cardoso Prize for Contemporary Artists. He was also a teacher: from 1974/75 and assistant at the Sculpture Atelier at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Bourges, France; from 1977/79 he was Professor of the 3D Workshop at the Parque Laje School of Visual Arts, Rio de Janeiro; from 1977/79 he was Professor of Plastics at the Department of Arts at PUC/RJ, Brazil; from 1995/2001 he was Professor at the Center for Architecture and Arts - USU - University of Santa Úrsula, Rio de Janeiro; in 2001 he was Professor at Universo Niterói, Brazil. Your work is represented in the following collections: João Bosco – Brazil; Paulo Klabin – Brazil; João Satamini – Brazil; Museum of Modern Art of Bahia – Brazil; Museum of Fine Arts of Rio de Janeiro – Brazil; Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói – Brazil; Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo – Brazil, among others. He passed away in 2003.
