Print Temps - Performance by Regina Frank

May 4th, 6pm, National Library of Portugal

Regina Frank presents, at the closing of the exhibition The Time of Images IV. Recent editions of the Portuguese Screen Printing Center (on display at BNP until May 6th), the performance PRINT TEMPS.

The performance addresses the book's history and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies during the "spring" of a new era. Using a combination of sound, narrative and projection, Frank brings to life Life the fascinating and often overlooked story of how written and visual language evolved over time.

Thus, Regina Frank invites the public to a journey through the centuries, from the medieval period, when monks meticulously copied the Bible, moving then to the era of printing, exploring how the mass production of books revolutionized access to knowledge and ideas, and how the creation of images evolved, in parallel with the written word, in the art of engraving, photography and media in visual culture.

Finally, Frank concludes his performance with the rise of Artificial Intelligence and the implications it has for the creation of images and texts, inviting the audience to reflect about the ethical implications of AI-generated art and literature and what it means for the future of human creativity.

Regina Frank is a German artist; who works mainly with text and textile installation and performance. Since 1989, it has been a pioneer in combining performance art with technology, integrating the Internet and interactive social software installations.
