THE BALLET OF LINES AND THE ESSENCE OF DANCE

António Carmo has established himself throughout his plastic work, as one of the contemporary exponents of the lyrical tradition in Portugal, considered by a critic to be of the greatest importance. Rui Mário Gonçalves' science, defining our cultural identity, alongside what he calls “subtle art”, the ability to interrogate and transcend appearances. In his painting, the cult of form is associated with vibrant colors shining in contrasts of primary tones that the line contains without imprisoning, rather giving them lightness and density. In current silkscreen prints, the line, set against a blackness that accentuates its mystery, seems to capture the essence of a prodigious movement in eternal metamorphosis. A tribute to the dance and the talent of the star dancer António Casalinho who symbolizes it in this image with the beauty and perfection of his movements.
