António Jorge Gonçalves

António Jorge Gonçalves was born and lives in Lisbon on 19 October 1964. He graduated in Communication Design at Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa and completed his MA in Theatre Scenography at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where he was awarded a scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

His work involves editorial illustration, visual performance and political cartoons. He is the author of the comic book series Filipe Seems (with Nuno Artur Silva) and the graphic novels A Arte Suprema e Rei (with Rui Zink).

He has done visual direction in several theatre plays, including O que diz Molero e Arte (staged by António Feio) and Como fazer coisas com palavras (with Ricardo Araújo Pereira). Created the Subway Life project, drawing people sitting in the Metro carriages of many cities around the world. He wrote and directed the film/performance Lisboa quem és tu? to be projected on the walls of São Jorge castle, in Lisbon.

In the last decade, his Digital Drawing performances have taken place all over the world, involving artists like Bulllet, Kalaf, Amélia Muge, Micro Audio Waves, Gino Robair, Ellen Fullman, Mário Laginha or Bernardo Sassetti.
He teaches Performing Spaces in the Master in Performing Arts (FSCH, Lisbon).
