Born in Lisbon in 1955, Amélia Assis attended the Ar.Co. painting courses between 1985 and 1987 and in 1992 studied at Syracuse University in New York with Professor Jerôme Witkin and drawing at the Metropolitan School of the Arts in New York.
Besides her work as a painter, she has collaborated several times as an adornment designer for the Joana Grupo de Teatro group, one of the times as a set designer invited by the EXPO'98 animation department, integrated into the priority programme with the show "Mafamagafa". Among the exhibitions she held, we highlight, in 2001, "My name is woman" at the Ler Devagar Bookstore, for which Adília Lopes wrote. In the same year she collaborated as a columnist in the art magazine: "Atualidade Arte e Cultura".
