Born in 1934, in Muvesha, Marracuene district, Maputo province (Mozambique). He was one of the most important African artists of the 20th century. A contemporary of Malangatana and Chissano, among others, Shikani took up residence in the city of Beira in the seventies. He lived in the Macurungo neighborhood, where he had his studio. He was an employee of the Municipalized Electricity Services of Beira, and later joined the staff of Electricity of Mozambique. Having resigned from the public company, Shikhani returned to Maputo in the mid-1990s.
Having exhibited his work in several Mozambican cities, Shikani took his art to Mozambique. other continents, but he did not have the same luck as other artists of his generation.
Exhibitions of his work are highlighted in Germany, Russia, Cuba, Hungary and Portugal , among other countries. On the African continent, Shikhani has exhibited in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
He passed away in 2010, in Moçambique.
