Pedro Tudela

Born in Viseu, in 1962. In 1987, he completed his degree in Painting at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto (ESBAP), with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, where he would later come to teaching as an assistant professor (since 1999). In 2003, he took Pedagogical Aptitude and Scientific Capacity tests at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto where he completed his PhD in Art and Design in 2011.

Exhibits internationally since 1982 and his body of work is multifaceted, with diverse works that range from painting, installation, performance, to art. to music and music multimedia. Pedro Tudela has been developing, since the 1980s, his own experimentation at the plastic and sound level. He was the author and presenter of the radio programs “choose a finger” and “reduced atmosphere” at xfm between 1995 and 1996. 

Between 1981 and 1987, while a student at [esbap], he was co-founder of the missionary group: he organized national and international exhibitions of painting, postal art and performance.

In 1992, he founded the multimedia collective Mute Life Dept for the exhibition “Mute... life”. In 2003, he became one of the founders of the media label Crónica.

In his work as a visual artist, he was represented by Galeria Graça Brandão. Participates in several exhibitions, performances and international art fairs, between 1980 and 2010. É represented by Kubikgallery since 2011.

Exhibited his work in important national galleries, as is the case with many others. the case of Galeria Graça Brandão, in Lisbon and Porto, AH Galeria de Arte Contemporânea, Viseu, Palácio de Galveis, Lisbon, Arte Trabalho Revolucion,  Porto, CAPC, Coimbra, Casa Municipal da Cultura, Museu da Pedra, Cantanhede, ”, Centro de Arte de S. João da Madeira, Galeria Canvas, Porto, Galeria ZDB, Lisbon, Museu Alberto Sampaio, Guimarães and at Kubikgallery, Porto.

He has released albums solo, with the MLd collective and essentially with the @c collective, he has collaborated and participated in several national and foreign compilations.

He has received several awards for painting and drawing and is currently working on his career. represented in museums and private collections such as the Serralves Foundation – Museum of Contemporary Art, in Porto, the Center for Modern Art, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, the Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon,  Museum of Contemporary Art of Funchal, Funchal, Banco Privado, Lisbon - Anacom, Lisbon, Portugal Telecom, Lisbon - BES. Lisbon, at the PMLJ Foundation, Lisbon, Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães and at the Centro de Arte Contemporânea Graça Morais, Braganãa.

In 1992, for the exhibition “Mute... life”, he started the multimedia collective Mute Life Dept.
