Paulo Hernãni was born in Porto, in 1962. He graduated from the Higher Course of Plastic Arts, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Along with painting, his body of work and areas of creation also include the field of sculpture, ceramics and illustration. É He is an experimentalist artist who, although aesthetically coherent, has not affiliated himself with an artistic discipline, which accentuates his restless character.

The first time he exhibited his work was in 1984, at the Visual Arts Exhibition at Porto Municipal Council. Sendeo has since had his work exhibited individually, for the first time in 1985 Pintura na Cooperativa Árvore, also in Porto. Of the various exhibitions in which he participated, we also highlight his presence at Galeria S. He was awarded in 1987 with the Lifetime Achievement Award from  National Painting and Drawing Competition,
FCUP Student Association, in 1997 with the Anthó National Painting Prize ;nio Joaquim and the Júlio Resende Prize, in 1999 with the Isolino Vaz National Prize – V.N. Gaia, in the year 200 with the Bavarian National Painting Prize – Serralves Foundation and the National Sculpture Prize – Homage to Aureliano Lima and in 2001 he was selected for the Exhibition of Biennale Winners (XI) in Vila Nova de Cerveira and was awarded the Bavarian Acquisition Prize. of the International Art Biennialof Vila Nova de Cerveira.

His work is represented in important collections such as the collection Maconde, Finibanco,  ICL, Profitêxtil, CBavarian collection of  Contemporary Art Museum of the Cerveira Biennial and theVila do Conde Municipal Council.
