Nadia Baggioli

Nadia Baggioli was born in 1949 in Trezzo Sull'Adda, Milan, Italy. He lived in Paris between 1968 and 1973. In 1973 he moved to Lisbon, the city where he lived until his death. today.

In the 70s, together with the artist Carlos Barroco, he founded “Grupo 2”, a group whose objective was to travel around the country looking for and researching crafts and popular toys.

Later, in 1976, in cooperation with Carlos Barroco and Leão Lopes, he organized the 1st Figueira da Foz Rural and Urban Crafts Hall, as well as the 1st; Urban Crafts Fair in Lisbon (1982).

The artist created several costumes for performance: Neon Group, 1984- Vila Nova de Cerveira Biennial; CAM, 1985 – Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Picoas Fórum, 1986 – Lisbon; Éden Park, 1986 – S. Vivente Island, Cape Verde. He worked as a costume designer for theater and cinema until his death. end of the 90s. 

Currently, his creative work has as its main focus the realization of traditional Portuguese characters such as fado singers and popular marching dancers, as well as iconic or culturally known figures, such as Santo António or Fernando Pessoa. Pieces that are based on the use of papier-mâchê and the theme is Portuguese identity.
