Miguel D'Alte

Miguel Ângelo d’Alte Rodrigues was born in Braga, on February 2, 1954. Between 1960 and 1973, he lived, with his family, in Moçambique. Since 1968, the Diário de Moçambique publishes drawings by Miguel Ângelo Rodrigues, a student at Escola do Macúti, highlighting his “rare skill”. Between the 10th and 17th of June 1973, within the scope of the VI Exhibition of Aesthetic Education, organized by the MP MPF Regional Delegation, Beira, Mozambique, he was awarded the 3rd; Youth Oil Painting Award.

In Porto, he always lived on Rua da Igreja de Cedofeita, a house that belonged to his parents and remains in the family's possession.

Exhibited, for the first time, at Galeria O Primeiro de Janeiro, Porto, alongside Ana Cinzento and José Rodrigues, in 1975. But it was in 1976 that he entered the Painting course at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto (ESBAP). He participated in the annual exhibitions of ESBAP students for the academic years 1976/1977 and 1977/1978, always with several works selected. ;tree, since 1978.

In 1978 he won the Fernando de Castro Painting Prize, awarded by the Ateneu Comercial do Porto to an ESBAP student who, in the previous academic year, had stood out. 

In 1980 he participated in the 1st Collective Exhibition of Cooperativa Árvore Members and the 2nd Cerveira Biennial.

In the 1981/1982 academic year he obtained 20 points in the 1981/1982 academic year. Aesthetics subject on the ESBAP Painting course, taught by Álvaro Lapa.

Between May and June 1982, he organized his first solo exhibition, at Cooperativa Árvore, Porto, entitled “Pintura(s)”.

In 1982 he participated in the III Bienal de Cerveira and, after the stone intervention he made on the hill of Sra. da Encarnão, in Vila Nova de Cerveira, the Municipal Council awarded him a medal.

Between September and October 1984, he participated in the exhibition Novos, Novos na Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, in Lisbon, curated by Eurico Gonçalves. Between January 21 and February 4, 1985, It was organized at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes, Lisbon, his third solo exhibition. 

In the 1986/1987 Academic Year he was a Painting Professor at the Artistic Higher Education Cooperative Árvore I, in Porto.

He was part of the catalog published by Galeria Roma e Pavia on the occasion of the “Contemporary Art Forum”, Lisbon (1988) and the “ARCO International Contemporary Art Fair”, Madrid (1989). Between April 23 and May 16, 1993, a solo exhibition took place at Cooperativa Árvore, Porto, curated by Fátima Lambert.

In 1994 he was selected for the exhibition Premiados Espólio e História das Bienais de Cerveira, which took place at Solar dos Castros, Vila Nova de Cerveira.

Between September 14 and October 1995, he organized the solo exhibition Pinturas 1980/1995, at the Instituto da Biblioteca Nacional, in Lisbon.

In 1996, he created the cover and drawings for the book “Poemas e Dilemas dos Marginais”, by Luiza Gonçalves, with graphic execution by Lisbon Municipal Council. The book was launched on March 8, 1996, at Galeria Zé dos Bois, in Lisbon.

Between 10 and 31 December 1996, he organized the solo exhibition Paintings and other still lifes, at Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Lisbon.

In the summer of 2006 he created and painted one of the deer that were displayed in the garden in front of the Paos do Concelho, in Vila Nova de Cerveira.

He passed away on December 24, 2007, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
