Martins Correia

Born in Golegã in 1910. He graduated in Sculpture at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes in Lisbon. He began his activity as a teacher in the 1930s in Caldas da Rainha, having taught at the Rafael Bordalo School. He revealed himself as an artist in 1940, on the occasion of the Portuguese World Exhibition.

He was a member of the Art and Archeology Council of the Lisbon City Council and an honorary member of the National Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon. In his work, the most representative pieces are sculptures, which are spread across several national and foreign cities, and in public and private collections. In addition to sculpture, he dedicated himself to art. painting, drawing, screen printing and printing tiles. In this area, he has already carried out At a very advanced age, two large projects for tile panels in Lisbon: "Picoas" station, of the Lisbon Metro and Torre Vasco da Gama, in Parque das.

In the 1980s, he donated to the Golegã Its vast estate, which gave rise to the Martins Correia Museum. He received awards from the National Society of Fine Arts, Academy of Fine Arts, Diário de Noticias and honorary orders, including the Order of Public Instruction - Official Degree and the Order of Santiago de Espada - Official Degree.
