Lagoa Henriques

Born on December 27, 1923.

He began his artistic studies in the special Sculpture course at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, in 1945. He completed the Higher Sculpture Course in 1954, at the Porto School of Fine Arts, with the presentation of a work of great importance classified with a maximum grade of 20 values, the scale used for the evaluation. It's time.

Between 1982 and 1983, he worked, by request, at the Portuguese Institute of Cultural Heritage, coordinating a project to publicize Cultural Heritage (1983). In 1984 he was a member of the jury for the competition to award a medal in honor of Almada Negreiros.

During the 90s he taught the Drawing discipline at the Escola Superior de Conservação e Restauro de Lisboa and, in 2000, he was hired as a Guest Full Professor, on an accumulation basis, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. In 2008, he became Emeritus Full Professor at the Institute of Arts and Crafts of the Autonomous University of Lisbon.

It is the author of the sculpture representing the poet Fernando Pessoa that can be found on the terrace of the Café Brasileira, in Chiado, Lisbon, "O Segredo" (1972), in Jardim Amália Rodrigues, the statue of Guerra Junqueiro, the mausoleum of Fernando Pessoa, in the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, as well as the sculptural motifs in the Rex, Ritz and Altis hotels, all in Lisbon.  the sculpture by Alves Redol, in Vila Franca de Xira; the Conquest of Ceuta, in Jardim do Ouro, and the Ferreira Borges Sculpture, in the Palace of Justice, both in Porto; two sculptural groups in Oliveira do Bairro (Entrega do Foral a D. Manuel and the monument to Portuguese Universalism); sculptures of Empress Sissi and Pope John Paul II, on Madeira Island; "Camões" and "Ilha dos Amores", in Constância; the monument to Constable Nuno Álvares Pereira, in Abrantes; D. Sebastião, in Esposende; Antônio Aleixo, in Loulé; "Year of the Dog" and "Encounter between West and East", near the ruins of São Paulo, in Macau; "Leda and the Swan", at the Portuguese Embassy in Brasilia; interventions in Banco Fonsecas & Burnay, in Porto and Lagos; the bas-reliefs in the palaces of Justice in Gouveia and Lisbon; the medal commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Portuguese Society of Authors (2005).

Master and motivator of successive generations of artistic creators, author of notable drawings and sculptures, poet, lecturer and collector of pieces as diverse as paintings, shells, books, trunks of Trees and other collections.

He passed away, aged 85, on February 21, 2009.
