José Ribeiro was born in Abrantes in 1954. Graduated from the 20th Century Painting and Art History Courses. XX of the National Society of Fine Arts of Lisbon. Member of the SNBA of Lisbon, ANAP-National Association of Plastic Artists and CNAP-National Club of Plastic Arts.

In 1973 he attended the Decorative Arts Atelier in Saragoza, Spain. He worked as an illustrator and graphic designer from 1976 to 1997. From 1997 onwards he moved to Évora, where he currently resides, dedicating himself exclusively to art. painting.
He has regularly participated in painting exhibitions since 1969, having received several awards and honorable mentions.
He is represented in several collections public and private institutions in Portugal, Spain, Japan, USA, Canada; and Germany.
