Irene Ribeiro

Born in Esposende in 1949. Between 1970 and 1973 he attended the Drawing and Plastics Course, Faculty of Fine Arts, at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado in S. Paulo, Brazil, as scholarship. And in 1978 and 1979, a Postgraduate Degree at the School of Communication and Arts at the University of S. Paulo. In 1979 he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for an internship in Engraving – Portuguese Engravers Cooperative in Lisbon and, in 1987, a grant from the same institution for engraving research. In 1989, he received support from the SEC / Division of Plastic Arts of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the exhibition “Terras de Além Mar”, at the Museum of Brazilian Art at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation, S. Paulo. And in 1994, a grant from the same foundation for the holding of the traveling exhibition: “Gravura 1974/94” by the National Library of Lisbon, Cooperativa Árvore no Porto and Museu Municipal de Esposende and for the solo exhibition “Hors Concours” at Troisième Triennale Mondiale d’Estampes Petit Format – Chamalières, France. He participated in several individual and collective exhibitions: Galeria Juan Martin, Mexico City, 1976; VI British International Print Biennale, Bradford, England, 1979; II Unicap Winter Festival, Recife, Pernambuco, 1979; 3ª Fine Arts Exhibition of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 1986; “How Artists See the Environment”, Barking and Dagenham, Great Britain, 1987; Contemporary Luso-Brazilian Engraving Salon, Casino Estoril Gallery, 1988; Traveling Exhibition of Plastic Arts “Portugal - The Place Where I Live”, Heimsheim, Germany, 1992; among others. You are represented in public and private collections, in Portugal and abroad.
