Francisco D'Almada

"Francisco D'Almada" was the initial name chosen by Francisco Simões de Almada, plastic artist and sculptor later nationally recognized as Francisco Simões. Born in Almada, in 1946. He completed the course at the Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio in 1965 and the Sculpture course at the Academia de Música e Belas Artes da Madeira in 1974. In 1967 he received an OECD scholarship in Rome, Turin , Novara, Verona and Milan and the following year he worked at the Louvre Museum at the invitation of Germain Bazin.

 

In 1989, he was appointed by the Ministry of Education as a Visual Arts consultant for the project - Culture begins at School, in 1990 he was a contributor to the Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias and In 1992 he was appointed, by the Ministry of Education, a member of the working group on Humanization and Aesthetic Enhancement of Educational Spaces. Chose Sintra  to live and work for more than 20 years, but currently resides on Madeira Island, where he settled and where he created  "Francisco Simões Arts Center". 

 

É He is a painter and sculptor and has a series of monuments and works in public spaces, namely the sculptures in Parque dos Poetas, in Oeiras.
