Coralie Bickford-Smith was born in Norwich, Norfolk, in 1974. She graduated in Typography and Graphic Communication at Reading University in 1998 and has worked for Penguin Books since 2002. Her book covers have been recognized by AIGA (USA) and from D&AD (UK) and have been mentioned in several international publications, such as the New York Times, Vogue or the Guardian. Coralie Bickford-Smith was also selected as one of the revelations of British publishers by The Bookseller in 2011.

Her work Clothbound Series, for Penguin Classics, has attracted attention around the world and takes us back to the world of Victorian bookbinding and the golden age of hand binding. The designer prefers to consider bindings printed in fabric, instead of the usual ones in paper.

More recently, the F. Scott Fitzgerald collection, with art deco motifs in metallic prints, confirmed the predilection of bibliophiles and collectors for the work of Bickford-Smith.

“I want my covers to be as appreciated as the literature inside them”, tells us the designer about her obsessive attention to detail: “if we pay attention to a detail it will certainly be valued. People will want to explore and feel the same sensations of a design that stands out and makes us vibrate.”
