Ciuco Gutierrez

Born in Torrelavega (Cantabria) in 1956, Ciuco Gutierrez created the first images with a strong personal signature in 1983. He asserted himself in Photography with a language of aggressive colors and irony, his “weapons” of expression. His compositions did not leave anyone indifferent. In 1986 he held his first solo exhibition at the Moriarty Gallery in Madrid and has since exhibited both in Spain and abroad. He was one of the first photographers, along with Ouka Leele, Alberto García Alix, Javier Vallhonrat and Joan Fontcuberta to open art galleries to Photography and to exhibit his work at ARCO.

His work has revolved around the staging of spaces and places, in which, starting from a very intimate look in which imagination has been a fundamental part of the discourse through objects, the paradox and color are transformed, recreating a world of unique dreams.

Since then Ciuco Gutierrez has held around a hundred solo exhibitions, both in Spain and abroad. His work is represented in important collections, both private and public, notably the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Fundación La Caixa in Barcelona, the Fundación Banesto in Madrid and the Colección Norte de Arte Contemporáneo del Gobierno in Cantabria, among others.
