Born in 1937 in Lisbon, Carlos Lança had his studio in Porto since 1976. He received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1966-67 (Lisbon and Paris) and from Hofstra University in 1969-70 (New York).
With participation in dozens of exhibitions, his works were presented in Portugal and abroad. He is the author of several projects for public space, namely monumental architecture, pedestrian design, urban furniture, mural painting and ceramic panels in Portugal and abroad. He has a vast and significant bibliography.
Carlos Lança is represented in state, foundation and other institutional and private collections in numerous European countries, and in several museums in Portugal.
He was awarded several prizes and other distinctions (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Brazil and USA). He was an honorary member of several artistic and cultural institutions in Spain, Italy and Brazil and was the President of the National Board of Directors of ANAP (National Association of Plastic Artists), of the National Committee for AIAP / UNESCO and of the Luso-Galaico Committee for culture.
Carlos Lança passed away in Porto, in 2009.
