Since 2018, CPS has awarded the CPS Young Art Prize to finalists from different Art schools in Portugal, in partnership with Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa and the Millennium bcp Foundation. The prize includes an artistic residency at the CPS Studio, where the selected artist develops an edition of graphic work.
Beatriz Coelho – 2018
Born in Porto in 1995, she graduated in Painting at FBAUL (Lisbon) and was one of the artists selected to be part of the 3rd edition of the book Portuguese Emerging Art (PEA).

Beatriz Coelho, “Tick Tack (slowness)”, Screenprint with collage,
47x65 cm, 100 copies
Her work, strongly linked to a temporal dimension, stems from painting and expands into other disciplines. The piece created during the artistic residency at the CPS Studio gains a certain three-dimensionality through cutting and collage techniques. The artist also individually intervened in each copy, giving them the uniqueness of original works.
Maria Bernardino – 2019
Born in Macao in 1992, she studied at ESAD, Caldas da Rainha, and at Ar.Co, Lisbon.

Maria Bernardino, “Zodiac Series – Pisces#3”, Engraving, 50x35 cm, 12 copies

Maria Bernardino, “Zodiac Series – Aries#2”, Engraving, 50x35 cm, 12 copies
During her artistic residency at the CPS Studio, she created the Zodiac Series, an edition consisting of 36 engravings dedicated to this theme: “Zodiac is the result of a journey that seeks to resemble the astrologer’s task — to interpret, to give tone in an intuitive and inspired way, playing with the field of possibilities within the astrological universe.”
Oksana Zahryva – 2020
Born in Sumy, Ukraine, in 1994. She attended the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture (Kyiv) and graduated in Painting from FBAUL (Lisbon).
Oksana Zahryva, “First Steps”, Engraving (multiple techniques), 50x70 cm, 50 copies
Work produced during the artistic residency at CPS. Her work takes as its starting point the Russian occupation of Ukraine and raises the issue of freedom of choice and self-determination, since each individual is conditioned by the context of their birth.
Chikki Chikki – 2022
Artistic name of Ana Pessoa (born in 1998, Salvaterra de Magos), graduated in Fine Arts from ESAD, Caldas da Rainha.

Chikki Chikki, “Winx of desire”, Mixed media with canvas print,
32x75x12 cm, 25 copies
Work created by Chikki Chikki during her artistic residency at CPS. She expresses herself through a multidisciplinary approach, revealing her unique and fantastic imagination. She questions the exhibition space, builds thought beyond objects, and creates escape spaces and alternative realities.
Hugo Castilho – 2023
Born in Setúbal in 1995. He holds a degree in Visual Arts – Multimedia (University of Évora) and a Master’s in Painting from FBAUL (Lisbon).

Hugo Castilho, “Wake up, eat, dream”, 3D matrix / Relief print,
85x67 cm, 30 copies
Engraving using relief techniques created during an artistic residency at the CPS Studio (three variants). In his work, everyday scenes are simplified, gaining life and three-dimensionality through different techniques. Human figures and natural elements populate this poetic and humorous world.
In 2024, the prize was awarded to Jessica Gaspar, the next artist in residence at the CPS Studio.
The participation of CPS in the FIG Bilbao Print Fair has also expanded its recognition, allowing the same prize to be awarded to young artists distinguished at that fair.
CPS FIG Bilbao Prize 2023: Irati Retolaza
Born in Bilbao in 1996. She holds a degree in Arts from UPV/EHU and a master’s in Graphic Work from the International Center for Contemporary Printmaking – CIEC.

Irati Retolaza, “OHEAN”, Engraving (multiple techniques), 64x50 cm, 50 copies
The work developed during the artistic residency at the CPS Studio takes as its central subject the bed — OHEAN, in the Basque language — imbued with the artist’s own experiences. A symbolic and poetic object, an intimate space and a place of refuge, it evokes the cycle of human existence.
CPS is driven by two main motivations: on one hand, to support and give visibility to young early-career artists; on the other, to promote the knowledge and practice of printmaking techniques, offering a privileged space for creative experimentation. Join us on this journey!
